Woodrow Wilson High School & Lowell Bayside Academy

Seniors from Woodrow Wilson High School and fifth graders from Lowell Elementary School celebrated their writing through a gallery walk and oral readings as a culmination of their California Writing project. Seniors in Maureen Rippee's Multicultural Literature class created an anthology made up of different genres that used the established CWP themes and lessons as points of departure.

In order to share this positive experience with students and teachers from other grade levels, Jackie Gonzalez, fifth grade teacher at Lowell Bayside Academy, enthusiastically agreed to participate in the program. Next, seniors who also were enrolled in Maureen Rippee's Exploratory Teaching class introduced the themes and lessons to their peers who in turn adjusted lessons to fit the fifth grade curriculum and the needs of their individual fifth grade students. Exploratory Teaching students introduced, guided, and helped fifth graders to revise for publication. The process was very valuable for everyone involved.
